Authenticated PHP execution via unescaped message category
Published Jan 21, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025
Code injection in Yii2 Gii before 2.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary PHP through the Gii web interface. Generator::generateString interpolates messageCategory without escaping into PHP translation calls written to generated model files. Access to the Gii endpoint and code-generation functions is required; successful exploitation runs attacker-supplied PHP in the application context.
