CVE-2020-36620

Denial of service via unbounded invalid-string cache

Published Dec 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Brondahl EnumStringValues 4.0.0 and earlier allows attackers to exhaust memory with invalid enum strings. TryParseStringValueToEnum_ViaCache adds attempted strings to a ConcurrentDictionary, while the patch instead prebuilds a finite cache of valid enum strings. Reachability requires a consuming application to use cached parsing on attacker-controlled input; repeated distinct invalid values can exhaust the host process's memory.
