Prototype pollution via unsafe clone handling
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2025
Prototype pollution in hoek before 8.5.1 and 9.x before 9.0.3 allows remote attackers to alter object prototypes via crafted clone input. The clone function converts an object containing the proto key into a prototype instead of treating the key as ordinary data. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled objects to clone(); resulting prototype changes can alter downstream confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
