Memory corruption via unconditional Send and Sync
Published Aug 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Data races in the convec crate 2.0.1 and earlier allow attackers to corrupt memory through concurrent use of ConVec. ConVec declares unconditional unsafe Send and Sync implementations, permitting values such as Cell or Rc that lack the required thread-safety traits to cross thread boundaries. Exploitation requires a consuming application to store such a value and access it concurrently; the resulting data race causes undefined behavior, including a crash or memory corruption.
