Memory corruption via oversized image-grid dimensions
Published Jul 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in libavif 0.8.0 and 0.8.1 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory by supplying a crafted AVIF image. avifParseImageGridBox accepts untrusted output dimensions without limiting their product, allowing integer overflow before avifDecoderDataFillImageGrid writes decoded grid pixels. Processing requires user interaction in the consuming application, and the write corrupts adjacent memory with no authentication required.
