Confidentiality loss via RIFF size underflow
Published May 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in libwebp before 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to disclose data or interrupt services via crafted WebP files. The ChunkVerifyAndAssign parser subtracts the RIFF header from an undersized chunk length without sufficient bounds checks, causing integer rollover and an over-read. Exploitation requires a vulnerable application or utility to process attacker-supplied WebP data; the documented impact is memory disclosure and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
