CVE-2020-36323Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Memory disclosure or crash via repeated borrowing

Published Apr 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Memory unsafety in Rust standard library before 1.52.0 allows context-dependent attackers to disclose memory or crash programs via join. join_generic_copy borrows each value to calculate a buffer length, borrows it again to copy data, then assigns the result the earlier length, potentially leaving bytes uninitialized. Exploitation requires a Borrow implementation that returns different strings between calls, and the resulting effect is limited to memory disclosure or process failure.
