Application crash via uninitialized decoder control query
Published Dec 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in AOM 2.0.1 allows attackers to crash applications that query an uninitialized AV1 decoder. The ctrl_get_last_quantizer function reads ctx->frame_worker->data1 without first checking whether frame_worker is null. Reachability requires an application to request the last quantizer before decoder initialization; the resulting process crash affects availability only.
