Privilege escalation via unchecked custom-role assignment
Published Jan 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authorization bypass in VasylTech Advanced Access Manager before 6.6.2 allows remote authenticated users to assign themselves custom roles. The AAM_Backend_Manager::profileUpdate method accepts the aam_user_roles POST array and grants filtered roles without a standard capability check. Exploitation requires Multiple Roles Support and a custom, cloned, or level-less role; resulting access is limited to that role's configured capabilities.
