Memory corruption via crafted image processing
Published Jan 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in FastStone Image Viewer 7.5 allows context-dependent attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted image file. While processing the crafted image, the instruction at FSViewer.exe+0x96cf writes EBX through the invalid computed address [ebx+esi-8]. Exploitation requires user interaction, and the public artifact demonstrates invalid memory modification rather than reliable code execution.
