Application crash via unchecked X3F row offset
Published Sep 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in LibRaw allows local users to crash a consuming application when it decodes a crafted X3F image file. The X3F Huffman row decoder passes an unchecked row offset to set_bit_state, allowing get_bit to read beyond the image-data buffer. A user or application must open and decode the malicious file; the demonstrated consequence is an access-violation crash, not data disclosure or code execution.
