Unauthenticated leader takeover via manipulated Raft terms
Published Dec 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper access control in Atomix 3.1.5 allows remote attackers to take leadership of a target cluster through crafted Raft traffic. RaftContext processes term values supplied by an unauthorized Atomix node, allowing those values to control leader selection. Network reachability to the cluster is sufficient, and successful exploitation gives the rogue node control over cluster leadership without data disclosure or service interruption.
