Browser script execution via reflected msg parameter
Published Jan 11, 2021 · Updated Nov 19, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Quest Policy Authority 8.1.2.200 allows remote attackers to execute script in a browser via a crafted initFile.jsp link. The Web Compliance Manager initFile.jsp endpoint reflects the msg parameter into its HTML response without sanitization, allowing attacker-controlled JavaScript to run in the application origin when a victim follows the link. Exploitation requires no authentication but does require victim interaction with the malicious URL; impact is client-side script execution and possible access to data available to the victim session, without evidence of server compromise.
