Root command execution via unvalidated script input
Published Jun 18, 2020 · Updated Nov 15, 2024
Command injection in Cisco RV router firmware allows remote authenticated users with administrative privileges to execute root commands. The web-based management interface passes user-supplied request input to scripts without proper validation, allowing injected commands to reach the underlying operating system. Exploitation requires an administrative login and a malicious request over the local LAN, or through remote management when that feature is enabled; remote management is disabled by default.
