CVE-2020-3217

Administrative code execution via malformed CDP message

Published Jun 3, 2020 · Updated Nov 15, 2024

Improper input validation in Cisco IOS XR Software 5.2 and 5.3 allows attackers to execute administrative code via malformed CDP messages. The onePK Topology Discovery Service does not sufficiently restrict message lengths, so its CDP parser can overflow the stack. The attack requires direct Layer 2 adjacency and an enabled onePK feature; exploitation can instead crash a process, reload the device, and interrupt service.
