CVE-2020-3216

Physical root-shell access via interrupted boot

Published Jun 3, 2020 · Updated Nov 15, 2024

Authentication bypass in Cisco IOS XE SD-WAN Software 16.9.1 through 16.10.1 allows physically proximate attackers to gain a root shell. The boot initialization path accepts certain commands without sufficient authentication when startup is interrupted. Physical access is required to stop initialization; successful exploitation grants unrestricted root-shell control over the device.
