CVE-2020-3204

Privileged root code execution via malicious Tcl input

Published Jun 3, 2020 · Updated Nov 15, 2024

Arbitrary code execution in the Tcl interpreter of Cisco IOS and IOS XE allows local users with privileged EXEC access to run code as root. The interpreter insufficiently validates supplied Tcl data and processes loaded malicious Tcl code, causing memory corruption or root-level execution on the underlying operating system. Exploitation requires local access and privileged EXEC credentials, and successful execution grants control at the operating-system root privilege level.
