CVE-2020-29443

Host process crash via invalid ATAPI LBA

Published Jan 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in QEMU 5.1.0 ATAPI emulation allows guest OS users to crash the host QEMU process with a crafted read command. The ide_atapi_cmd_reply_end function uses an unvalidated logical block address as a buffer index while completing the ATAPI read reply. Guest control of an emulated ATAPI device is required; an invalid LBA terminates the host process and interrupts the affected virtual machine.
