Remote takeover via hard-coded REST credentials
Published Jan 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in four Geeni and Merkury camera and doorbell firmware builds allow remote attackers to take full device control. The ppsapp RESTful application compiles a static username and password into GNC-CW028 2.7.2, GNC-CW025 2.9.5, MI-CW024 2.9.6, and MI-CW017 2.9.6. Network access to the API and those credentials enables password-hash theft, Telnet activation, and access to stored audio and video files.
