Authenticated code execution via category file write
Published Jan 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in MonoCMS Blog 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through a crafted category request. The monofiles/category.php handler writes the unvalidated newcat value into category/[foldername]/index.php, where the server interprets it as PHP. An authenticated administrator session is required, and successful exploitation runs arbitrary code with the web server's privileges.
