CVE-2020-28627Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked Nef volume index

Published Apr 18, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in CGAL 5.1.1 Nef polygon parsing allows attackers to execute code by supplying a malformed polygon file. SNC_io_parser::read_volume() uses an unchecked file-supplied index to read SFace_of and append the resulting object to shell_entry_objects(), enabling type confusion when the invalid object is later dereferenced. The consuming application must parse attacker-supplied Nef data; successful exploitation runs code in that application process.
