Code execution via unchecked Nef edge index
Published Apr 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in CGAL 5.1.1 Nef polygon parsing allows remote attackers to execute code through a specially crafted malformed file. SNC_io_parser::read_edge() uses an attacker-controlled index to access SEdge_of and assign eh->out_sedge() without validating the array bound. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass the malicious file into the Nef parser; successful exploitation runs code in that application's context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
