CVE-2020-28607

Code execution via unchecked halfedge index

Published Apr 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in CGAL 5.1.1 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying a malformed Nef polygon file. PM_io_parser::read_face accepts a nonnegative halfedge index and uses it to access Halfedge_of without checking that it is below the vector bound. Exploitation requires an application linked with the library to parse attacker-controlled Nef data, and the resulting invalid object reference can crash the process or enable code execution.
