CVE-2020-28483Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Source IP spoofing via trusted forwarding header

Published Jan 20, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Client IP spoofing in Gin before 1.7.7 allows remote attackers to forge source addresses via crafted X-Forwarded-For headers. Context.ClientIP accepts the leftmost forwarded address from a client-controlled header instead of walking the chain from a trusted proxy boundary. Reachability requires an application to use the reported address for a security decision; direct Internet exposure or broadly trusted proxies permits restriction bypass and source concealment.
