Internal resource access via unrestricted image URLs
Published Feb 18, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
SSRF in ReportLab Toolkit before 3.5.55 allows remote authenticated users to access internal URLs through crafted image tags. The paragraph image handler passes the src value to reportlab.lib.utils.open_for_read, which calls urlopen without restricting the destination host. An application must accept attacker-controlled paragraph markup and render it; successful requests originate from the application's network context and expose reachable internal image data.
