Cross-site scripting via unescaped TOC content
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Cross-site scripting in markdown-it-toc 1.1.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script through crafted Markdown content. The plugin places a generated table-of-contents title and header text into HTML without escaping attacker-controlled characters. Exploitation requires a consuming application to render attacker-controlled Markdown and a user to view the output, after which script runs in that page's browser context.
