Privilege escalation via insecure default folder permissions
Published Feb 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect default permissions in Siemens SIMARIS configuration before 4.0.1 allow local users to gain persistence or elevate privileges. The installer configures the default application folder and its subfolders with permissions that permit lower-privileged modification. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and later use of the modified installation when a user with elevated credentials logs on.
