Authentication bypass via incorrect protected-page string matching
Published Feb 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authentication bypass in NETGEAR router firmware 1.2.0.62_1.0.1 allows network-adjacent attackers to access protected web pages. The mini_httpd service on TCP port 80 incorrectly matches requested protected-page strings, allowing an alternate path around authentication. No authentication is required from the local network, and the bypass can be chained with separate flaws to execute code as root; alone, it defeats web-interface access control.
