CVE-2020-27845Public exploit

Application crash via unchecked progression component indices

Published Jan 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in OpenJPEG before 2.4.0 allows local users to crash an encoding process via crafted progression-order parameters. The opj_pi_next_lrcp, opj_pi_next_rlcp, and opj_pi_next_rpcl functions index the component array without first validating POC component bounds. Exploitation requires user interaction with untrusted conversion or encoding input, and the documented consequence is interruption of the processing application.
