CVE-2020-27802Public exploit

Local denial of service via crafted Mach-O

Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

UPX 4.0.0 allows local attackers to cause a service interrupt via a crafted Mach-O file. The elf_lookup function in p_lx_elf.cpp performs unchecked arithmetic that raises a floating-point exception while parsing attacker-supplied Mach-O data. Exploitation requires a user or automated process to open the file, and the consequence is a crash of the UPX process without reported confidentiality or integrity impact.
