CVE-2020-27798Public exploit

Process crash via unchecked symbol-name pointer

Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Invalid memory access in UPX 4.0.0-git-87b73e5cfdc1+ allows local users to crash UPX by decompressing a crafted Mach-O file. PackLinuxElf64::adjABS passes a file-derived string-table name pointer to strcmp without establishing that the pointer is readable. A user must cause the command-line tool to unpack the file; the observed result is a segmentation fault and process termination, with no confidentiality or integrity impact reported.
