Unauthenticated code execution via eval-based message parsing
Published Aug 11, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Code injection in FoldingAtHome Client Advanced Control GUI allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted server messages. The parse_message function in Connection.py passes untrusted message data directly to Python eval instead of decoding it as structured data. Crafted network data must reach the GUI client connection; successful exploitation runs code with the permissions of the GUI process.
