CVE-2020-2748

Hypervisor information disclosure via cursor buffer over-read

Published Apr 15, 2020 · Updated Sep 30, 2024

An out-of-bounds read in Oracle VM VirtualBox before 5.2.40, before 6.0.20, and before 6.1.6 allows guest OS users to disclose hypervisor data. The vmsvgaR3FifoUpdateCursor function fails to validate guest-supplied cursor data before reading it, causing a read past an allocated buffer. Exploitation requires high-privileged code execution in the guest; disclosed data can support a chain that executes code in the hypervisor context.
