Arbitrary code execution via crafted update ZIP
Published Aug 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Code execution in rConfig 3.9.6 and earlier allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by installing a crafted update ZIP. The updater.php endpoint accepts a modified rConfig archive containing a PHP webshell and installs its contents without adequate validation. Reachability requires the crafted archive to be uploaded and installed; successful exploitation places executable PHP on the server and yields webshell access.
