CVE-2020-27009Network attack vector

Code execution via DNS pointer-offset overwrite

Published Apr 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Siemens Nucleus NET before 5.2 and affected APOGEE and TALON controllers allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute code. DNS record decompression accepts out-of-range pointer offsets and writes past the end of its allocated structure while parsing malformed responses. A privileged network position capable of supplying those responses is required; the overwrite can also crash the current process.
