Hypervisor code execution via out-of-bounds array access
Published Jan 15, 2020 · Updated Sep 30, 2024
Out-of-bounds access in Oracle VM VirtualBox Core before 5.2.36, before 6.0.16, and before 6.1.2 allows local users to execute hypervisor code. VBoxVHWAHandleTable fails to validate user-supplied data before accessing an allocated array, permitting memory access past its end. Exploitation requires high-privileged code execution in a guest and grants execution in the hypervisor, enabling takeover across the host trust boundary.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
