Session theft via unescaped ToDoList sort parameter
Published Jan 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reflected XSS in ToDoList in Vanderbilt REDCap 10.0.20 LTS and 10.3.4 allows remote attackers to execute script via the sort parameter. ToDoList/index.php returns the sort query value in the generated page without escaping it, allowing attacker-supplied markup to close the surrounding context and execute as script. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted URL while Completed & Archived Requests has more than 10 records and paging is active; script runs with that user's REDCap session privileges.
