Application hang via exponential email-regex backtracking
Published Oct 26, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in nope-validator 0.11.3 and earlier allows attackers to hang applications with crafted email input. The emailRegex expression applies ambiguous nested repetition to attacker-controlled strings, triggering exponential backtracking. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass untrusted email data to Nope.string().email(), monopolizing its JavaScript execution thread.
