Administrator RCE via unsafe widget template paths
Published Jan 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in OpenMage LTS before 19.4.10 and 20.0.0 through 20.0.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute server-side code. The generateLayoutUpdateXml method used administrator-controlled template paths and block references to resolve a template filename and build layout XML without rejecting special characters. An administrator needs both import/export and widget-instance permissions; exploitation places an executable file on the server and runs its code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
