Root code execution via unrestricted PHP script path
Published Feb 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Code execution in UCOPIA Wi-Fi appliances 6.0.5 allows local users with administrator access to execute commands as root. The chroothole_client executable accepts an attacker-controlled PHP script path and invokes the referenced script through a PHP interpreter running as root. Exploitation requires authenticated administrator CLI access and a writable location inside the restricted chroot, after which arbitrary host commands run with root privileges.
