SYSTEM command execution via writable agent script directory
Published Feb 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Checkmk before 1.6.0p17 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands with SYSTEM privileges. The Windows agent grants standard users write access to %PROGRAMDATA%\checkmk\agent\local and regularly executes scripts placed there as SYSTEM. A logged-in standard user can plant a Trojan horse batch file, gaining local administrator control over a monitored Windows system.
