CVE-2020-24823Public exploit

Denial of service via crafted ELF

Published Aug 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Denial of service in Libelfin v0.3 allows attackers to crash dwarf::to_string during DWARF string conversion by supplying a crafted ELF file. The dwarf::to_string function mishandles values from the untrusted ELF/DWARF structure, leading to a segmentation fault rather than safely rejecting malformed input. Local users or processes that open attacker-provided ELF files can trigger a service interrupt; no confidentiality or integrity impact is documented.
