CVE-2020-24102Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via unchecked screenshot filenames

Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Path traversal in Even Balance PunkBuster pbsv.d64 2.351 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a screenshot reply. The server validates traversal sequences only when a client-supplied screenshot filename ends in .png, then joins unchecked non-PNG names to its screenshot path and writes the supplied bytes. A connected game client can therefore replace any writable file, enabling code execution when a replaced executable module is loaded.
