Binary tampering via disabled certificate validation
Published Jan 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper certificate validation in node-sass before 7.0.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to tamper with downloaded binaries. The binary download options in scripts/util/downloadoptions.js set rejectUnauthorized to false, so HTTPS accepts an untrusted server certificate. A man-in-the-middle position during installation is required; a substituted native binding can alter code loaded and tested by the install process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
