CVE-2020-23931Public exploit

Memory disclosure via unterminated box string

Published Apr 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in GPAC before 1.0.1 allows context-dependent attackers to disclose process memory through a crafted media file. The abst_box_read parser fills a temporary heap buffer from Adobe bootstrap-box strings and passes unterminated data to strdup, which reads beyond the allocation. Processing the supplied file with MP4Box is required, and the demonstrated run aborts after the invalid read.
