CVE-2020-23921Public exploit

Compiler crash via lexer heap over-read

Published Apr 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap-based buffer over-read in fast_ber 0.4 and earlier allows local users to crash its compiler via a crafted ASN.1 file. The yy::yylex lexer in generated asn_compiler.hpp reads one byte immediately beyond the heap buffer holding the compiler input. Exploitation requires a user to run fast_ber_compiler on attacker-controlled input; the published proof of concept triggers an AddressSanitizer-detected abort.
