Memory disclosure and crash via oversized PNG copy
Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in AdvanceMAME through 2.1 allows attackers to disclose process memory or crash advmng via a crafted MNG file. mng_read_ihdr multiplies attacker-controlled image dimensions without an overflow check, allocates the wrapped size, and png_convert_4 copies 260 bytes from a five-byte buffer. Processing a crafted file is required, and the demonstrated consequence is an application abort with no reported data modification.
