Application crash via malformed DCR memory write
Published Jul 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.54 allows local users to crash the application by opening a crafted DCR image. The 32-bit Formats.dll plug-in reaches ShowPlugInSaveOptions_W while parsing DCR data and writes a word through a malformed computed address. Exploitation requires user interaction to open the file; the published impact is an application crash with no reported confidentiality or integrity effect.
