Process memory corruption via crafted DCR file
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.54 allows local users to corrupt process memory by opening a crafted DCR image. The 32-bit FORMATS.dll plug-in’s ShowPlugInSaveOptions_W path writes a word to an invalid address while reading attacker-controlled DCR data. Exploitation requires the crafted file to be opened in IrfanView; public evidence demonstrates the write violation but does not establish code execution.
