Application crash via crafted DDS parsing
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.54 allows local users to crash the 32-bit viewer by opening a crafted DDS file. The FORMATS.dll GetPlugInInfo path executes a rep movs instruction that copies attacker-controlled DDS data through invalid destination memory. The affected path requires the FORMATS plug-in and local file opening; published evidence bounds the demonstrated consequence to a user-mode write access violation.
